The HIV I & II Card Test is a rapid immunochromatographic assay used for the qualitative detection of antibodies to Human Immunodeficiency Virus types 1 and 2 (HIV-1 and HIV-2) in human serum, plasma, or whole blood.
This test is designed for preliminary screening of HIV infection and provides results within 15–20 minutes.
HIV-1 is the most common and widespread type of HIV globally.
HIV-2 is less common and primarily found in West Africa, but testing for both types is important for accurate diagnosis.
The card test is easy to use, cost-effective, and suitable for both clinical and outreach settings. While a reactive result indicates possible HIV infection, it must be confirmed with supplemental tests such as ELISA, Western blot, or PCR for definitive diagnosis, as false positives may occur.
