The STD Profile is a multi-panel diagnostic test designed to screen for four major sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that can have serious health consequences if left undetected:
HIV 1 & 2 Antibody Test
Detects antibodies against HIV types 1 and 2. A positive result indicates exposure to the virus and requires confirmatory testing. Early diagnosis is key to starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) and reducing transmission.
HBsAg – Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Test
Identifies active infection with Hepatitis B virus. A positive result means the person is infectious and may be at risk for liver complications like cirrhosis or liver cancer.
HCV – Hepatitis C Antibody Test
Detects antibodies to the Hepatitis C virus, indicating a past or current infection. Positive results should be followed up with HCV RNA testing to confirm active infection.
VDRL – Syphilis Test
A non-specific test that detects antibodies related to Treponema pallidum, the bacterium causing syphilis. Positive results require confirmatory tests for accurate diagnosis.
This STD Profile is commonly used for:
Routine health screening
Pre-marital or pre-employment checkups
Pregnancy screening
Testing after potential exposure or unprotected sex
The panel allows for early detection, effective treatment planning, and prevention of long-term complications or further transmission. All positive results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider, and additional confirmatory tests may be needed for diagnosis.
