The Widal Slide Test is a quick and qualitative diagnostic test used to detect antibodies (agglutinins) in the blood against Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi, the bacteria responsible for typhoid and paratyphoid fever.
The test is performed using a blood sample and special antigen-coated slides. When the patient’s blood contains antibodies against these bacteria, visible clumping (agglutination) occurs on the slide, indicating a possible current or recent infection.
