The HBeAb (Hepatitis B e Antibody) test identifies antibodies directed against the Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg), a viral protein associated with active replication of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV).
The presence of HBeAb (anti-HBe) in the blood typically indicates:
A decline in viral replication, and
A reduction in infectiousness.
This usually follows the disappearance of HBeAg and signals a transition from an active to a less active phase of infection. It can also indicate positive response to antiviral therapy.
