The PR3-ANCA (C-ANCA) Test is a blood test that identifies antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) specifically targeting proteinase 3 (PR3)—an enzyme found in white blood cells. These antibodies are strongly associated with Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA), a rare autoimmune condition that causes inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis), affecting the respiratory tract, kidneys, and other organs.
The term C-ANCA refers to the cytoplasmic pattern seen under immunofluorescence when these antibodies bind to PR3 in neutrophils.
This test helps:
Confirm diagnosis in patients with unexplained respiratory symptoms, kidney issues, or systemic vasculitis
Monitor disease activity and treatment response
Differentiate between types of ANCA-associated vasculitis
