The Cardiolipin Antibody (ACL) – IgG test measures the presence of IgG-type autoantibodies against cardiolipin, a phospholipid found in cell membranes. These antibodies are commonly associated with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS)—an autoimmune condition that increases the risk of thrombosis (blood clots) and pregnancy-related complications, such as recurrent miscarriage, stillbirth, or pre-eclampsia.
The IgG isotype is considered more clinically significant than IgM or IgA for diagnosing APS. A positive result may also occur in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and other autoimmune diseases.
This test is often ordered alongside ACL IgM, Beta-2 Glycoprotein I antibodies, and Lupus Anticoagulant as part of a full APS panel.
