The Anti-Phospholipid Antibody – IgM test detects IgM-type autoantibodies directed against phospholipids, which are essential components of cell membranes. The presence of these antibodies is commonly associated with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS)—an autoimmune disorder that increases the risk of venous and arterial thrombosis (blood clots) and pregnancy-related complications such as recurrent miscarriages, preterm delivery, and preeclampsia.
This test is usually performed alongside Anti-Phospholipid IgG and Lupus Anticoagulant for a comprehensive assessment. A persistently elevated IgM level, especially when accompanied by symptoms, supports the diagnosis of APS.
