CA 15.9 Detail

CA 15-3 (Cancer Antigen 15-3) is a protein produced by certain cancer cells, particularly breast cancer cells. The CA 15-3 blood test is commonly used to monitor women with breast cancer, especially metastatic or recurrent disease. It is not recommended for initial screening or diagnosis, as levels may be normal in early-stage cancer or elevated in non-cancerous conditions.

Clinical Applications:

🔹 Primarily used to:

• Monitor treatment effectiveness in women with advanced breast cancer

• Detect recurrence or metastasis after breast cancer treatment

• Occasionally used alongside CA 27.29 or CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen) tests

🔹 May also be elevated in:

• Ovarian cancer

• Lung cancer

• Liver disease (cirrhosis, hepatitis)

• Benign breast conditions
