The Urine Culture and Sensitivity (Urine C/S) test is a microbiological test used to detect bacterial or fungal infections in the urinary tract, such as the bladder, ureters, or kidneys. The test involves culturing a sterile urine sample in a lab to identify the specific microorganisms causing the infection.
Once the organisms are identified, antibiotic sensitivity testing is performed to determine which antibiotics are most effective in treating the infection. This helps doctors prescribe the right antibiotic, preventing antibiotic resistance and ensuring a faster recovery.
Urine C/S is especially important in recurrent UTIs, complicated infections, pregnancy, or when symptoms like burning urination, frequent urination, fever, or lower abdominal pain are present.
