The Estradiol (E2) test measures the level of estradiol, a form of estrogen, in the blood. Estradiol is the primary female sex hormone, produced mainly by the ovaries in women and in smaller amounts by the testes in men and the adrenal glands in both sexes.

In women, estradiol plays a vital role in the development of female sexual characteristics, regulation of the menstrual cycle, preparation of the uterus for pregnancy, and bone health. In men, estradiol helps regulate libido, erectile function, and sperm production.

This test is commonly used to evaluate fertility, menstrual irregularities, menopause, and ovarian function. It also helps in monitoring hormone replacement therapy, ovarian stimulation during IVF, and diagnosing hormone-related disorders like PCOS or tumors.
