The Luteinizing Hormone (LH) test measures the level of LH in the blood. LH is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that plays a vital role in the reproductive system of both males and females.
In women, LH helps trigger ovulation (release of an egg from the ovary) and supports the menstrual cycle. In men, LH stimulates the production of testosterone, which is necessary for sperm production. This test is often used to evaluate infertility, irregular menstrual cycles, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and pituitary gland function. It also helps determine the onset of puberty or menopause.
Clinical Indications:
Assessment of infertility in both men and women
Evaluation of irregular or absent periods
Diagnosis of PCOS
Detection of early or delayed puberty
Monitoring menopause status
Assessment of pituitary gland disorders
