The Apolipoprotein A1 (Apo A1) test measures the level of Apo A1, the main protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), commonly known as “good cholesterol.” Apo A1 plays a key role in removing excess cholesterol from tissues and transporting it to the liver for excretion.
Higher levels of Apo A1 are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, while low levels may indicate an increased risk of atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, or metabolic syndrome. It is especially useful when assessing lipid metabolism disorders, genetic lipid abnormalities, and in patients with a family history of cardiovascular issues.
