The Triglyceride test determines the amount of triglycerides, a type of fat (lipid), in your bloodstream. Triglycerides are produced from unused calories and stored in fat cells to be used for energy later. After eating, your body converts excess calories into triglycerides.
High triglyceride levels are often linked to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, pancreatitis, and are commonly associated with conditions such as diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and hypothyroidism. Contributing factors include a high-sugar or high-fat diet, excessive alcohol intake, lack of exercise, and certain medications.
